The man behind the slime: Jwilson

I can honestly say I haven't recalled too many name callings that have been justified.
So when I came across the man Johnny Wilson in a form of a slime named Jwilson, I was a little curious of how he became Orgin's second most hated foe.

First there was Rains, the heroic jerk that some love and few hate, then there was a game reviewer named Johnny Wilson. Who is this infamous slime?

Johnny Wilson is one of a kind chunky nerd, and old enough to be most of our dads.
I hate stereotypes, but he fits a lot of them I won't name.
Apparently this game reviewer scurried to places most game reviewers would never dream of. This reputation was something he wore on his sleeve I'm sure of.

He got into Orgin's personal business several times, even spilling the beans on Orgin's buy out to EA. He took his hate on Orgin's project even to it's last days of existance. Did Richard pee on this man's parade? Did he and Richard have comflicts that nobody else is aware of? Possibly.

This man clearly got under Orgin's skin, and frankley after reading about him, I can see why.
His political liberalism is nothing hidden as he speaks freely about it, and it's no wonder why he chose some of the actions he's done because of this. Keeping politics out of journalism is a prefered method as you're bound to burn someone in due time, and I think Johnny is still too naive to realize that (Or he does and pretends not to).

Welp, I guess he's loved by some.

My opinion comes from his personality. I've worked with sneaky people like him. He can't be trusted. After I read about him sneaking a peek of Orgin's financial records when nobody was looking, it just kind of made me think that he would be a great slime. And so he is one hell of a slime in game and out.

Among writing a bad review for UO, he citicized them immensly. And then there's this quote.

"In all of my years at CGW, I can’t recall any sources ever claiming that I compromised them. The closest thing to it was during the controversy over Wing Commander IV. I published a story on the budget overrun for Wing Commander IV and infuriated the folks at Origin. I had seen an actual copy of the budget for Wing Commander IV, but because of the circumstances in which I saw it, had to read it upside-down. The folks at Origin were sure that I had seen it on Lord British’ desk, but that wasn’t the case. I had seen it at corporate headquarters. Naturally, you may be wondering how it benefited my readers to know that Wing Commander IV exceeded its budget by so much. I reasoned that if Wing Commander IV didn’t succeed, it would restrict the number of other projects that Origin would be able to produce. Frankly, I was right. Origin experienced enough of a recession that it had to cut a ton of projects off its slate even after Wing Commander IV was a major success. There was only so much development money to go around."

You have to understand that Orgin had investors, and they needed to keep details of their projects out of the media so the investors didn't get persuaded to pull the plug.

And there's his alternative way to information forging

"Being fair also meant treating your sources properly (I take that for sarcasm). For years, people wondered how I remembered all the things they had told me at industry ****tail parties. The assumption is that when you are in a location and everyone is drinking that no one is going to remember a few slips of the tongue like: 1) the new designer that was just stolen from another company; 2) the unannounced product that someone was working on; 3) the big merger someone was trying to close with a public company (actually, an illegal comment to make at any time); 4) the affair that an executive was having with a given employee; 5) the illegal substances used at a given company; 6) the company that was being sued by one of its developers; or 7) the real reason a certain executive had to leave his post. All of those stories were interesting to me and I drank them all in, but I always asked one question before I went to press, “Does revealing this knowledge benefit the readers?” Frankly, the sex and drug stories wouldn’t have benefited my readers in any way. Only once would it have made a difference and I didn’t get confirmation until it was too late. The only time it was relevant was when a developer snorted a game up his nose. By the time I could have confirmed it, everyone had forgotten that product. The new designer wooed by a new company? That was big news for my readers when it was Dan Bunten or Chris Crawford because it affected the kind of products the readers would see from the new companies."

Az, if you're going for that classic feel, I think you should create a new breed of slimes named after someone you don't like.

He's just a gaming journalist who gave UO a bad review. So they named slimes after him. Because journalists are slime. Not that epic of a story.

I can see why they hate him... I don't think he did anything that bad.

Though, I'm personally not a big fan of secrecy. Just ****ing let it out there. If theres something to be ashamed of, then perhaps you need to take a good look at what it is and fix it rather than try to shove it under the rug.
