I think events like bomberman, and CTF, and 1v1, 2v2 tournys and FFA tournys help build population.... The 1v1 tournys can be automated, on Defiance you could pay gold to Sponser events, witch was also cool.

Automated events can be cool, same as staff ones - but, don't forget: players could and should make events too, people love player events! We have had some pretty cool ones here

this server has a lot of events imo. tilly does a good job doing stuff pretty consistently it seems like
