Seeing as how I did end it with next question I will shed some knowledge to you even though I feel you clearly do not deserve it being known as one of the more popular trolls of this forum..

More daily automated events will bring in players to one specific place on the map. Being that these events are designed for PVP it will attract players in OCB therefore when the events are finished and everyone is returned back to civilization players will continue to fight all those who came to participate in the event.

Do you ever sit and wonder why so many people show up for the monthly tournament? Because it is scheduled at a specific date and time, very competitive and fun.

Adding more of these events on a daily basis will liven up the servers population and bring most players out of there cocoons, but they must have these three qualities in order to attract people. Staff cannot host events like the monthly tournament every day because
1: This is a free server so they are not getting paid except in donations which Az has claimed on countless times is not making his pockets very heavy
2: They are clearly under staffed for 3-4 events daily ran by a staff member

For those that refuse to read this very drawn out comment that I was forced to explain to someone who is clearly challenged.
Short summary , If you build it they will come.. One specific location or "hot spot" attracts and continues to keep players there for an hour or two after the event is over.

Automated events are a step in the right direction.

I actually hate the GM hosted tournaments because the audience isn't allowed to do anything but watch. One of my first experiences on this server was going to a tournament, attacking a grey in the crowd and subsequently getting jailed. What's the point? I can watch the video on youtube later if i want to see some guys duel.

This is my problem with these types of events and why I prefer player hosted events. I think UO is a sandbox game and I think players should be responsible for themselves, not have things set up for them. The CTF thing sounded to me like the instanced **** I've seen on other servers, if it's not and its just some CTF event in the middle of the map where everyone can come **** with it, then I don't have any real problem with that except that I think players should just be doing it themselves to begin with. When I used to play on pacific back in the day, the guild ElF used to have "Elf Ball" where they'd have capture the flag events. People also used to play Bag Ball or whatever other dumb **** they could come up with. Duels/tournaments were hosted on tower roofs etc. If you're unreasonable you might read this to be "you just want to grief events" but the truth is UO is about that risk and when you take it away what do you have? The GM hosted tournaments here are essentially trammel, pure and simple. You go in a gate and you cant steal/pk/fight/do ANYTHING but stand around and watch other people fight.

If these events aren't instanced then whatever, but I've seen a lot of free servers add in what equates to WoW BGs lately and thought this might be similar. That's the point I made in my first post too, I guess you couldn't wrap your head around it though, but thanks for immediately resorting to calling me names, guy.

Essentially, if you want cool events go HOST them YOURSELF.

Funny post after funny post. Keep them coming. I'm cracking up over here............. HONESTLY though automated events are much better for these servers. As long as they only last 1-2 hours each day. If you keep living in the past it will get you no where btw.

they dont need to last 1-2 hrs, maybe 45min tops, as not everyone can dedicate that much time to playing every since instanced event.

It sounds like you just want to grief events. What do you have after hosting a 'regulated' tournament? Well, you have the other 29 days 22 hours to do whatever the hell you want. Steal, PK, ****ing up people's 1v1s, kill lockpickers, kill bards, whatever gay **** fits your bizarre fantasy. Calling the MONTHLY tournaments trammel is a pretty ****ing huge stretch. It's MONTHLY. Trammel was PERMANENT. Yes, there is one event a month where some ****wad cant come ruin everyone else's fun. Seems pretty reasonable to me. There's still people there every month doing stupid ****. This month someone was peacing, some nerd was there firing arrows at competitors. People are there spewing utter garbage. Add in griefers interfering with fights, that sounds like a ****ing nightmare and absolutely zero fun. The purpose of the tournament is to measure e-peen. If you want to balance risk vs. reward, there's every other day of the month for that. Claiming something that is such a small percentage of game time "removes risk" is absolutely bogus.

Would have to agree with logann, i like events, and they dont take up much time. There's always gonna be people trying to mess them up, but unlike normal UO gameplay, mods/gms are normally there to clean up the griefers.

it completely removes risk for that period of time and it takes a lot of players off the map. is it only for like an hour or whatever? yeah sure, but that's an hour where the majority of the population is unreachable in any meaningful way. any ways it's obvious we just play UO for different reasons. I could care less about "measuring e-peen" and much prefer basically everything else you just listed. If i wanted to measure my e-peen i'd still be playing arenas on WoW right now or better yet I'd be playing street fighter. I play UO because it's supposed to be a sandbox game, an open world, and one of the few MMOs out there where you CAN pk/steal/loot. So yes, when ever I can't pk/steal/loot I can't play the game I want to be playing. It's a bummer, and that's the reason I don't like those types of events. I'm not alone in this, but we might be the minority I guess.

I still think those types of automated things should be left in IPY and excluded from the Golden Lands, and that the golden lands should strive to be as true to original UO as possible. I think this would actually benefit original IPY too because as stated some people (i still dont understand for what reason) like going to a slice of tram to watch 2 people fight once in a while, or are too lazy to set up their own events.

To address this part in particular, you mean to play UO?
