Let's Improve PvP

You realize very successful games usually take a group of "pros" in the game to test/critique their systems when making expansions.... right? The top pvpers are in essence the "pros" of the server.

If the systems are fun and enjoyable for us we will bring back a lot more people. It's very simple. Good pvpers like to play when there is action/fun pvp events.

Gore he doesn't get it. It is almost pointless, he thinks the guys who understand every tiny detail on how PVP works shouldn't have anymore say then the guy who doesn't know a single thing.

This server is hamstrung from his type.

Lets see how many page long posts he'll make with not a single idea within.

That's not the best example. Expansions usually mess good games up. The only expansions that are really successful are the ones that come out soon after the game is released since people are still loving the original game and would feel left out without the new content. If you're referring to EA bringing pros in to test their server and recommend changes, look where that got them. I don't participate in Betas often because I hate seeing the game before it's released, however, one of the ones I applied for asked about what other games you play, what your hardware is, and what you like to do in the game. Obviously they are shooting for diversity, I think that's important and apparently so do multi-million dollar developers.

If the systems are fun and enjoyable for people who aren't "hard core pvpers", I bet they would bring more people than you can. The top are only a select few, yet hundreds of people have played on the server. Again, you guys are wasting your posts on formulating rebuttals because you're unhappy with me defending ideas from the casual player.

The only other point I want to make is many of the top PvPers wanted to eliminate paladins, which is an awful idea. You probably don't realize it because you, and all of the friends you have who might have quit probably play PKs and are competent PvPers. Not everyone who plays UO can defend themselves, and previously there was no true incentive to be an anti-pk. The paladins system is one of the best (sadly abuseable) features on this server and you guys aimed to get rid of it last time I played. Don't get me wrong, if you want to waste your time again Edgar you can check and see my stance on the pally system. It was always "keep it in, adjust PK penalties like a dial until it's more fair". I'm also for adding PK incentives to kill pallies, pallies can't give counts.. etc...

I'm not here to debate mecahnics, and I agree with you - top PvPers should have their opinions weighed extremely heavy on this topic, but broad systems like the pally system, detective, traveling (boat to island) should be opened for everyone to have a say.

To keep this thread on topic... And I'm speaking out of ignorance here because Az hasn't fully explained the golden lands, but if there are no paladins in golden lands, and it's really easy to switch dimension, won't the paladin system be circumvented all together? I mentioned this in the other post, but got no response. If there aren't any restrictions on when you can switch rulesets, then you will break other systems like the paladin and bounty hunter system. I suggest keeping paladins as a 2nd option to putting restrictions on swapping dimensions.

I'm just a lowly casual player, but I see complaints of luck. How is weapon damage calculated? I expect it is a rand(min weapon damage,max weapon damage), which is unstable. It will take some luck out of the game if it is calculated by using some sort of probability distribution function. Basically making average damage hits more likely than really low or high damage hits. Its easy to implement if it isn't already in. If it is maybe tighten it up a smidge.

Actually, the best games take a diverse group of people to test things out.

When IPY2 was in BETA, we took a group of "known to be good PvPers" and they had a large imput in to how PvP was done. (Although mainly based on IPY1).

Yes, PvP is a large part of IPY2 and a big reason why many play here, but it is the community as a whole that keeps things alive. That does mean the crafters, the PvMers, the RPers and the annoying guys that try to noto-pk you in dungeons, or drag monsters on to you etc etc..

I think there should be a group of testers, but yes.. there has to be a careful, careful balance between balancing PvP (which I think is pretty much spot on with MOST things currently, few tweaks needed MAYBE) and with these spells being used in other situations and circumstances other than "fair duels" and fair fights.

But, of course.. the people who DO use "PvP" skills, tactics, spells the most.. ARE the "hardcore" PvPers, they can see the system better, but yes.. Kalanymr is right in that we can't JUST consider these spells, tweaks etc for flat out "1v1" fights, I think that is what he is trying to say.

There are a handful of people who play here who I do think are very well versed in PvP though, their imput would be desired, but not exclusively cutting out any other game play use for these spells.

The pvp is already balanced. You are way out in left field. The better players are not easily killed by one build or another. The best pvpers always come out on top. People just think it could be more interesting by doing things like nerfing mini heal to discourage defensive players from waiting out on lucky max damage hits to go offense.

Axel do you disagree with my proposal? I thought we established that this was a forum for the diverse community of ipy to make suggestions to improve the pvp experience.

I for one don't enjoy doing 10 damage twice in a row with a weapon that has an average damage of 20 while being hit by the same weapon for 30 damage twice in a row by an enemy. My suggestion would help alleviate this scenario and take some luck out of the game.

Instead of being a child how about you evaluate the suggestion.
