I agree IceBreg.. Love to see some better PR in non engish too.

Classic UO ruleset.. when I say classic, I mean when Origin and Lord british was at the helm of UO, not EA. T2A was nothing not EA rushing origin to capitalize on the success of ultima, which Garriot himself admits was not the direction they had attended.

So yes, classic UO was and will be the lore and design starting from Ultima 1 - ultima 9. What made IPY different is that is wasn't like to 100 other shards with T2A+. Thats why the big rush at the beginning of players, people missed that experience.

it peaked for a variety of reasons, that's definitely one of them. the point i'm making is not why it peaked but that it did, and that a lot of people experienced UO for the first time because of it. the point being that more people have played UO post UO:R than prior and such the UO:R rule set appeals to a greater number of people because it's what THEY started with and what they know. so a uo:r facet is a good way to attract players is my point because it appeals to a wider audience.

pretty much what larry said. as i saw it the choices for populated servers at the time i played IPY were Hybrid: Which has a large pop, but tons of crap like neon colors etc, very little housing left and a kinda crappy community from what i've seen. Divinity: which i played for a good amount of time when the pop was high but at the time i joined ipy the pop had dwindled. The Second Age: which i think i actually tried right before IPY but the problem was it had mounts but no way of dismounting/ethies and that really sucks to try to compete in. and then IPY: which was pretty freshly launched when i joined, probably had the largest population at the time i bet because of that, and had a mostly standard rule set when you start out but the more i played and began to interact with the custom features the less it appealed to me. I actually prefer the AoS era the most as I had the most fun on siege perilous during that time playing my necro, but I'm perfectly fine playing any era of UO really though I find some more fun than others. I think UO:R is better than t2a personally, but i've got no gripes playing t2a if the pop is there. I've been playing UO since the game came out, the games only fun when there's people around and i don't see the population going down because of the golden lands only up even if it is only momentarily at least we'll all be able to squeeze out a few more months of fun.

I've sat and read through all 44 pages of this thread to try and get a handle on what the 'Golden Lands' are going to be about. I don't really want to pass judgement, I'll just wait and see, I'm pretty sure most approaches to the subject have already been broached by one side or the other. I did however make a few notes as I read through, not sure they're terribly helpful but they didn't seem to be addressed so far...

    • Will hidden parallel players be visible...?
    • Will parallel players within private structures be visible...?
    • Will it be possible to determine whether a parallel player is alive or dead (I.E. will a deceased player ghost simply not appear)...?
    • Will transfer to parallel be possible during aggressor or criminal flags...?
    • Will you be able to see the names of parallel players...?
    • Will you be able to hear parallel players...?
    • Speculation regarding special moves seems to assume they'll be the same as the moves available on production shards (disarm, etc), will this be the case...?
    • Will the active policy on stealing differ at all in parallel, or remain the same...?
    • Since the role of paladins is to be significantly reduced in parallel, can detectives expect to receive similar treatment...?

My apologies to Az or whoever concerned if these questions can't be answered yet, or if they seem elementary, just wanted to air out my curiosity.

    Cheers,
    KV.

I wanna make sure I am understanding this correctly, so I am gonna lay out an example.

    Main World: 7x Mage Bard
    Golden Lands: 7x PK Mage

So im in Destard farming on my bard and I see a golden lands character running around.....

Can I just use my item to switch facets and blow his face off as my PK and then return to my bard?
Also, do the facet characters remain wherever you left them? So if I leave my Bard in Brit and go to Shame on my PK in Golden Lands and then switch back, will my Bard be in Brit or Shame?

And how will the monster spawns work? Will we see the ghosts from opposing facets fighting invisible entities? Will the spawn be shared(Very interesting if possible)?

I think its a really great idea which rewards those who put in the time and doesn't have any effect on people that only want to play one facet. I am just returning after a years break and it's sad to see the player base has decreased. I hope all of the hard work pays off.

Its still one character, your pack/skills are just wiped when you cross over. so if youre on your bard in IPY, theres no PK mage in golden lands

I imagine there will be some kind of combat timer before being able to cross back over, but yes the scenario you described will be possible

    The split-up is inevitable.
This was my only thought too.

Thought the player base was bad at any point in the past? Wait until it's split between 2 facets.
