Thread: the golden land...

  1. #31
My girlfriend and two close friends just started on IPY 1 month ago. I started 2-3 months ago. We finally all have 1-3 functioning, and pvp viable characters. Now, in a month or so, we are asked to follow some of the population over to a 'parallel facet' if we wish, and have to start over again, upon consummation of our current characters. Sounds dreadful....

I can safely say amongst the four of us, we desire more players, new dungeons, and random quest, but none of us wants to recreate the grind!

(also can we allow for more than name to be used. My friends and I all find it annoying that none of us have been able to name a character our first, second, or third choice, without the name being taken by people who don't actually play).

Also I agree with KY, and the others, a smaller landmass makes MORE SENSE, than fracturing what exist into double the size, on a hedged bet (these never go well, read a newspaper) that profits/players will come rolling in for eternity. And, let's presume in a year the population dwindles, as it will, then we are even further apart than we already are! Isn't there someway to decrease the landmass, while innovating dungeons or something, much like Rel Por appears to be trying to do?

The thing I loved about UO in the 90s, was that EVERYWHERE I went I ran into dozens of people, in droves. That can be done here too, if things get smaller in scale, and larger in population, but not larger in scale, and MAYBE larger in population.

How is this gonna work with razor btw? If i'm running my dexxer build on IPY and then switch over to the golden land, where i plan on running a medi-warrior, i assume i'll have to have 2 profiles saved and remember to switch them when switching facets. not that big of a deal i guess but does pose a slight problem.

Smaller steps are going to be better like opening ice dungeon, or blessing more dungeons, adding a small drop rate for higher end skills off elementals or above. Just giving the players a lil something new a small tweak is a good way to get the ball rolling IMO. I've seen 3-4 servers die out from simply making the play area bigger, or opening new housing areas.

You're of course not forced to do anything - the option exists if you'd like to explore it at some point.

Might I suggest that when you cross over, you get to keep 60% of 3 skills of the character's existing skills, that way you don't have to start 100% over from scratch and reduce on the grind effect.

Az I edited my post to include more.
This isn't exploring, this is radically changing our dynamic. Exploring is: hey let's visit Hyloth for the first time, or, lets try to run to minoc from britain. You're not offering "exploring" when we risk losing all our skills, on a gamble that MAYBE the other side will be more exciting....I guess reincarnation is 'exploring' to you?

Sure, if you can travel backward at any point. Which you can.

    It really is exploring.

You exist in both realms simultaneously - and appear in both. You just switch the active character, or the character you're controlling, by using an item.

So if I take my 6x mage to the golden lands, and my skills are cleared, and I'm a total noob again, when I go back in time, am I 6x all over? Your news page implied otherwise.

I certainly didn't mean it to.

All the negative responses are a complete non shocker. Soon as I started reading about it, I thought "Everyone will scream trammel." Lo an behold, page four and no less than 10 mentions of trammel. This isn't to say that I'm 100% on board with what's going on. I just think everyone here should seriously calm down and use some objectivity. At least see the thing for yourself before crying trammel. That being said, I've played my share of PRS's, and every mechanic I've ever seen (PK and NONPK tags, invisible walls that only blues can cross, guild town systems) to split players has been badly done.

I'm reserving my final opinion for the finished product. If it's truly terrible, then by all means raise your pitchforks. Until then, please try to contain yourselves.
