I'm not the big town kinda guy, I love Trinsic. I'm just in the hopes 2.5 brings some changes that can mean towns other than Brit can start boosting a population again. The first month of my kingship in Trinsic there was still enough people on the server that I got Trinsic bustling a little after a couple of events in town. If 2.5 brings people back I'll push to make trinsic a top town, even if the rules with starting town and dungeon exits don't change.

Would make more sense than an American.

Tilly is the true Queen of Britain.

the only way to make towns active would be to remove player vendors, there's no reason to be a crafter in town any more sadly. also removing player add ons like forges/anvils/looms etc. as cool as it would be, i'm not sure it'd be worth it as i think a lot of people would get pissed off.

Actually if anyone had some common sense the best way to make tows active would be to make it so you could only have player vendors in town in a special areas like they had in olden days called "The Farmers Markets" http://www.picturesofengland.com/Eng..._Market_Towns?
    http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...Town-BR-1.html
Honestly how difficult would that be the have the ppl from whatever township be able to have their vendors safely in Town.
But you know old habits die hard until the servers dies.

I had plenty of very good ideas and offered my help way back when IPY2.0 opened But at the time Only AZ liked me and since I was not deemed fit by a certain someone....Anyway I have never made a char here just watched and watched as the population has gone down.Sadly.Yes this is a new name, I forgot the old one.

I hope this "certain someone" wasn't me, since I don't really recall/know who you are. We get a lot of requests/applications/offers of people wanting to help.

But, generally speaking.. Az had a lot of people offering their ideas at the start, most of the new updates (especially the ones coming shortly! ) are from listening to the players, reading the Wind forum and seeing how things work/don't work/need altering.

(We still have the farmers' market here too, fresh fruit, veg, meat.. allsorts of things! It's pretty cool sometimes) - But yeah, the vendors in town thing; was something Az was thinking about a long time ago. I can see a lot of mixed responses for it though.. Maybe it would be cool to be a "now and then thing" like a trade fair/market every x days.

I love the idea of Town only player vendors.

Buying from player vendors would be a lot safer.
Pricing would be competitive leading to players having to advertise and promote thier wares.
Player population would be increased drastically in those areas leading to much more community interaction.
New players would hopefully see what appears (if not actually) an increased population.
New character starting point could be changed to be very close to the Market area increasing the chance for maximum exposure to the center of commerce from the get go.
Remove, limit, and otherwise decrease the amount of npc vendor items available to increase the need for Player vendor markets.
Make each market a non-pvp rules set but with 0 guard coverage (<- Read Trammel, before you complain think about it) to allow reds to freely shop and sell at no risk to them or blues.
Put a small tournement field near each market to allow the congregation of players to pvp with out fear of retribution or ganks with out being ocb or guildwar.

What you will have is a focus point players that offers a festive atmosphere that will allow many types of interaction and will inspire new players to stay. The illusion of a larger then actual population will keep new players interested and actually cause an increase in population that will have a compounding effect.

A couple more ideas I post a second time to not deter from the player vendor idea.

Monthly Town Hall style meetings. Open public gates in all towns to Brit Castle, where Az could host a town hall style meeting. Taking opinions, offering updates, and generally allowing players to vent. I realize we have a forum but sometimes people feel they are not heard or that thier questions are not being answered correctly.
Have a post on the forum where people will post thier upcoming questions or concerns for Az, he can take from that the ones that seem to be common amonst people and deal with those up front, as well as perhaps a question and answer type thing at the end.

The logisitics of how to not let this turn into a spam fest is better left to the staff but the idea would still allow a feeling of interaction between staff and population hopefully building a stronger feeling of community with vet players and demonstrating that to new players.

    Second idea:
I have seen on a couple of very small private shards where they have limited the map by closing off towns completely. I don't think this would be such a good idea but perhaps some story line that would allow a couple of towns to have alternate uses.
Maybe a town that is run over by monsters or an NPC evil army( Lord Blackthorn's forces have taken and now control Magencia) putting dungeon rules into effect in the town and allowing it to be an adventure spot instead of safe haven. Other ideas like this could be used for maybe one to three towns concentrating the population into fewer towns for safe havens.
