    Solo Archer Template for Pk'ing

The template i'm working on is for PK'ing in dungeons with a heavy X bow and a regular bow. I'm trying to decide on my template I need magery but not a full 100 points in it because I think that's a waste of skill points but, the down fall to that is what do you use the rest of the skill points in? My template is going to be so far:

    Archery
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
    Magery 70?
    30 Med? or another skill?
    Resist
    Hiding

I want to have some magery for the tele chase or escape, the trap pouchs, recalls, magic reflect, you name it. I have no Idea what to put the rest of the points in!

yer not gonna kill anyone with archery alone unless you pick on newb toons. You probably should rethink yer magery plan and add in eval. Actually you should prolly rething the entire template. Make a standard archer mage and after that adjust if you feel the need. Im not sure what exactly you plan to do with 30 med and as for escape? Magery wont help yu escape in a dungeon other than tele which has a delay for second use.

Agree with disco.. the more reliable/common templates would be a Mage build with Archery or a Melee/Archer dexxer build.

Of course - this is UO and part of the fun is finding wacky templates that fit your particular play style.. if your goal is to just have fun and maybe find some tactics that work with a mod-template then go for it... if you goal is to actually be solid at PvP then you'll have to take a more standard route IMO.

    100 Str 85 Dex 40 Int

    Archery
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
    Hiding
    Stealth
    Magery

I think the only way you are going to be able to kill anyone with Archery is by using the element of surprise. And even then, you are going to have to pick your targets very carefully. Sadly, you probably won't be able to take most tank mages or anyone with magery in a straight fight really. Mostly because they can actually cast greater heal faster than you can do damage with any bow. It's stupid as hell, and I hope they change that sometime, but that's how things are right now.

What could you do though is go to a dungeon and find someone actively fighting monsters (i.e. actually taking damage from them rather than just provoking / using summoned demons on them). Stealth up to right behind them (but leave one space between you and them) and then activate a greater explosion potion while having a magic heavy xbow equipped. Wait until the explosion potion timer is at about 1 second left, and then throw it and then shoot the xbow at them. You could try shooting them with the bow instantly when you come out of hiding (which activating the potion makes you), but I think if you were to wait 2 seconds before you do it, you might actually be better off as they dont get the message that someone is attacking them until its too late and they take anywhere from 40-70 damage from the potion+xbow.

Afterwards you are going to want to hide as soon as possible. Between the healing skill and magery + 40 int you should be able to heal up a bit if another fight occurs though.

having some med is always good on any pk template, youll be casting walls, teleport, recall, and disrupt. when youre solo youre often outnumbered anyway and being mana blocked when you need it the most sucks.

if you do any stealth template then id suggest a mage, 1 stealth archer is pretty useless. magery never fails, weapons can miss.

if i was you id turn him into:

    Archery
    macing
    Tactics
    Anatomy
    Healing
    Magery 60
    40 Med
Resist, if not gm put rest into med

My heavy X bows are deffently going to be hitting a lot and most of the time I will be on the run kiting and getting monster on people while breaking line of site to drop aggro off of me (Lets face it a solo PK is a big target for people to try and join up on and gank.) With that being said I can easly pop out of hiding and fire an X-bow hit which will do any where from 40-70 Dmg depending on the weapon and I do plan on carrying a Magic X-bow. Killing someone with just Archery and the Exp pots with dropping all the spawn on them so they are already taking dmg. I will for the most part be in the dungeons so I can use my hiding to an advantage by breaking LoS.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, You aren't going to kill anyone with a heavy xbow alone, besides newbies who dont know how to spam a heal button.

You won't be hitting a 'lot' or for 70 damage for that matter. Sometimes you will miss 4 shots then hit for 15 damage with a power weapon. Yeah, I've been there it sucks watching your good gear get looted because you couldn't land a hit to interrupt a spell combo.
You will hit no more than 50% of the time, and heavy xbows are slow as ****. If you insist on going straight achery I would recommend using a regular bow and switching to a heavy for killing blows.

With an ideal magic heavy xbow (power/supremely accurate) you'll do 25-45 damage against an unarmored person without reactive armor on. If they are armored (20 ar+) and have reactive armor on, you'll probably do 20-35 damage. That is if you even hit.

I like the idea of a solo PK, I just need to find a template that works that you can run around and hide while waiting for the right time to drop someone. I might just go with another template since mostly every template on this shard has to have Magery in order to do well with it.
