And here is a "trip down the memory lane", so to say, just in case some of you never seen those before or just forgot about them.
July '97 Official UO website (unfortunately Archive doesn't go further than that. Some of you may remember the alpha and pre-beta site, all black with a FAQ, beta application and almost nothing else.) - http://web.archive.org/web/19970607200130/http://www.owo.com/
Be sure to click on the upper left links, some sections are still inspectable :)
---
* David Hernly's "Auric Ultima Moongates": one of the most popular pre-release websites, also dedicated to Ultima in general - http://www.moongates.com/
Inside, you will find VERY old screenshots (maps too), even from pre-alpha.
* http://web.archive.org/web/19980429074054/http://ultima.scorched.com/ Chris "Mental4" Bailey website
Check the "pictures" section! If you actually click on them, they still show up!
* UO Stratics when it was still called "UO Strategy and Statistics"...'98 version - http://web.archive.org/web/19981111184851/http://uoss.stratics.com/
Unfortunately I couldn't dig up any Crossroads of Britannia incarnation, it was probably my favourite UO fansite :(
* Andrew's Place: Ultima Online - http://www.andrew.net/uol/screenshot.html
Probably the first ever website about UO I ever visited, even before the official one.
Have fun, and list others if you know more!! :cool:

Yep, the Proud Lion, with everyone having a shiny, coloured HTML name (or beggin' other people "please make one for meeeee!!!"), usually with the formula " [name] of the [guild name] " . Pre-release guilds warring against each other like there was no tomorrow (some made it to release, some didn't).

Gee, that was annoying, hehe; along with the endless emote battles when we were bored (umm...most of time, just waiting for beta news :P)
I also tried to find the original incarnation of the UO Vault (when there was *only* the UO Vault, managed by Gasper, I think it was his name), but to no avail :(

Oh wait, I found a version of Crossroads of Britannia: unfortunately, it's a later one (beginning of 2000), when it became part of a network:

You still can check their glorious "Dev Board", probably the most crowded place at that time, with the Developers interacting a lot (first DesignerDragon himself and GM Ed, then Runesabre and others) with the fanbase. Pity you can just read the titles and not the messages inside :D

Ooh, Crossroads of Britannia! They did a feature on my Great Lakes guild back in 97', The Royal Guard of Britannia, as one of the first roleplaying + anti-pk guilds in UO. Wish I could find that article/screenshots. I was also in a bunch of screenshots for their feature for Kazola's tavern and Lum the Mad stuff :p

Anyone remmber the Platedude and Bonedude videos?

I do vaguely remember the bonedude and platedude stuff.
I wonder if I still have the cloth map and massively thick "guide" books. I remember having one for the vanilla UO and a second one for T2A. Might have to do some digging in the basement for nostalgia sake.
