so here a thought....

how about letting us have horses, BUT...once you engage or are engaged in combat (with another player) you get kicked off your horse until the combat has ended?

wouldn't this only take a few lines of code? and it would solve our travel woes AND keep PVP balanced for 56kers and aussies.

this would also increase the risk vs reward of having a mount as anyone could attack you and then kill your mount.

Or maybe make it so you can't attack anyone while you're on a horse even if you're being attacked.

Either way, forcing someone to get off their horse while flagged as aggressive seems to solve it. But maybe I'm not thinking it fully through for loopholes

the only qualm people have with horses is the disadvantage it gives to people with worse connections in PVP. every thread i've read people want horses for travel, but don't want them for PVP. imho this solves it perfectly.

It will never happen. Trust me. I love mounts, but realize that no mounts is +10 times better just as long as NOBODY has mounts.
This will indeed be the case.

The reasons for having no mounts do add up in the end. It was highly successful in IPY 1, and will be in IPY 2. After a few days, the only thing that will even remind you of horses is seeing them in the wild or on the tamer npc.

I think its safe to say that recall alone solves our travel woes if you compare Uo travel to other mmo's out there its pretty good even without mounts and yes they do give a major disadvantage for those far from the server so it would be best to keep them out for balance reasons.

Say two people are fighting and one runs away, then a third party on a horse can help chase down the person running away.

It would still affect pvp.

IPY is not World of Ultima.

no horses.

i could see giving paladins horses if they are still outmatched by pk's though. time will tell

People seem so attached to horses...

This idea doesnt work as horses could easily prevent people initiating combat at all.

Forget about horses. Mounts and broadband don't work so well together, you know as well as I do they were never intended to be freakin drag racers that zip across screens in the blink of an eye.

so running away is pvp now? i guess you're one of those "pvpers" who starts running as soon as your health gets low, and you expect people to chase you from britain to vesper just to be able to finish you off.

so running away is pvp now?

Offscreening dumps is a GIANT part of group pvp.

Offscreening dumps is a GIANT part of group pvp.

so your arguement is that someone running up on a horse (past a group of people who - for whatever reason - did not attack them so they get demounted) and dumping on someone who is at 10% health is a problem? get real. the only ones who offscreen are people who have no other defensive skills whatsoever.

While it may be a bit weird that no one in the world of UO rides on a horse it still just feels so good not having them gameplay wise.

We should all get mounts, but instead of riding them, we should put packs on them. We could call them carry horses, or something equally clever.

No bloody horses. No way. Unfair in general but especially for Aussies, and there's going to be a big market in aus I promise!
