What if people could send an in game message to paladins after they are murdered?

That way being a paladin gives you a direct purpose, murdered people would send '/paladin damnit I was pkd at deceit lich lord room' and you get there as soon as possible.

You could also give Paladins a way to communicate thru messages to eachother.

Perhaps tack on a seperate timer for after you commit a murder, say 5-7 minutes. You can't recall or walk thru any gates.

Now you have PKs who have to stick around at least for a short while after killing, AND you have the victims shooting a message to all logged in paladins reporting their murder. Cat and mouse game ensues, or could end up being groups of paladins vs. groups of pks.

Some people may do stuff like use the paladin message to set paladins up for murder, but I think this would just be another interesting consequence of the game. Im sure more than one paladin would respond within 2 minutes of the call being made, and could make for some interesting showdowns.

I think that a change like this one would reduce the need for the more brutal penalties with the paladin systems shackling and losing your red for days on end etc.

And I think solo pk should be the most difficult way to play.

i thought one of the paladin rewards was a globe that gave you these locations? at least thats what i remember from reading the paladin 10 in 10.

Assuming there are no globes like faded mentioned, I think this is an excellent idea.

There is currently the Orb of Holy Sight as mentioned above where, when activated, will immediately report the location of any murder to its Paladin owner.

One of the most critical aspects of any strong community would be a committment of a segment of end gamers towards helping new players.

I feel that whatever mediums are available to the community, it would be wise for those who play IPY with a sense of honor and justice to facilitate organization and communication through these mediums. Various channels with which Paladins, the anti community in general, and noobs/casuals are able to find a support system in place.

This is something I feel that the community will be able to do on their own without the OP's idea.

It will be up to the community if they want to get together and do something to keep the PKers from overwhelming every nook & cranny.

I feel that "the Orb of holy sight" is enough. It does the trick, and it also makes the paladins work together since not all will have the Orb (I assume that at least).

edit. I also feel that detectives should be the ones to find the murderers, an in-game chat system might take away a bit of the detectives job.

Diz your post is stuffed with idealism that time has proven doesn't hold true, current issue aside.

The orb is a cool idea, I overlooked that feature.

But will a PK be able to just recall really fast before any paladins have time to respond?

Paladins addresses the red problem to some extent, but the point is that the tools need to be wielded responsibly by the community if they want to exercise these new justice mechanics to the full potential.

Or the community can be complacent, do nothing, and most likely see some of the same red issues as 1.0

An object at rest tends to remain at rest. An object in motion tends to remain in motion at the same speed and the same direction.

I think at this point it's hard to say what the paladin system needs. We need to see it in action, with an active population, and with everything else considered.

If being a paladin sways some of the would be reds, then there will be a much different result then most people still having at least 1 red character.

I was red on IPY like most people, and may wind up being that way again. But just from playing UO so much I am more interested in the roads less traveled at the moment.
