Yes, they were both a joy and a pain on the official shards: nice gatherings, distruptions, GMs trying to control the situation (well, not very often :P), d00d talking, great fun.

Hopefully, the population of IPY will grow (and be mature enough) so that it's possible to organize a variety of events: tournaments, banquets, weddings, festivals; dunno if Az thought about creating some sort of "shard storyline", with some key characters maybe played by the IPY staff, and related to the Ultima storyline (or at least something that would be reasonable inside the Ultima world, anyway).

Hey, maybe even journalists reporting happenings from all over Britannia, much like the old "The Britannian" on the official website was originally intended.

What would you like to see?

I think its already been predetermined that Basia and I will be organizing a wedding followed by a virtual shagfest day 1 of launch.

RP events: GMs and a few players spend days planning an event while everyone else just shows up the day of and tries to ruin it.

Hahaha, j/k. I'll probably be trying to burn down Brit bank with kindling while screaming about the voices...

...or just rolling a naked character named Rixus and have him do a Ctrl+B / "Please skull **** me." macro all day.

I remember back on divinity some people running plays at the britt theater, amazingly enough being a straight pvp player usually with little to no interest in RP MOST of the time... I found myself interested and i also kept to myself and tried not to ruin it for the RPers.

As far as GM intervention i would like to see as little as that as possible... Thats the one thing in my eyes that ruined Divinity When GM's gave the Orcs a Massive Orc fort for RP purpose... **** was retarded and unbalanced, Not that i dont like GM's but the less i see them intervening with my game play the better... they should only be there to help problems and keep the rules in place.

*Edit* aside form tourneys that are run by gms those are always fun and harmless.

Personally I think every 6 months there should be a server-wide "Sosarian Games" just like the Olympics.

It would feature everything from who can solve some Portal puzzle the fastest, to a Marathon from Trinsic through Britain to Vesper, and even stuff like Smithing contests where the contestants are given 100 ingots and whoever makes the most exceptional katanas throughout the rounds wins.

It might sound dorky as hell, but if it was an entire weekend event with like 40-60 different events that people could enter, each with 15 minutes in the spotlight, it would give the alternative playstyles a large realtime audience, and expose some of the rest of the game to each player who probably has their own playstyle niche and doesn't get to see all the cool things in the game.

I'm serious as hell with this idea btw but nobody takes it seriously when I drop it on people.

I love the **** out of it. Its this kind of NON PVP INTERFERING game play that will enhance the game without pissing everyone off.
And its just good harmless fun for everyone. Even the most cold blooded nooby ****ing player such as myself can enjoy said games :D

PS: i want to see checkers, Dice and Chess in the olympics to win my vote :P

The games sound like a wicked idea... But Diz, you and I both know how hard it is for me to get a full weekend on after the other night. Lol.

In other news, I may open some kind of casino thing later down the track with lots of abstract games and stuff inside, along with some traditional gambling. Games will include pvp games with loot to grab for the pvp minded, and maybe duels with a betting system included as well.

Yes, notice none of the events I mentioned are PvP.

I feel that tournaments and CTF are all great and everything - best ran either in a great while [monthly] or spontaneously, soas to keep people from doing the dreaded "log on/tourny/bbin4weeks" routine...

...there is so much in this game that is appealing that has nothing to do with PvP. Even if you consider yourself the most hardcore PvPer in this game, I think an event like I described may be able to shine the light on other areas of the game and possibly even make some hardcore PvPers scratch their head and maybe try their hand at other parts of the game (of course when nobodys looking, PKs hate being seen macroing cooking during their off-hours in their tower).

YOu know what els rocked ass that was in ipy 1 that i recall...

****ing rare auction on top of a large tower

That was one of the most kickass events i ever saw. In game auction run by players!

It was great because scoundrels showed up and of course tried to ruin it for everyone but it was ok!! because between the house owner removing those pesky players from the house there were also bouncers outside the house to keep people from meteor spamming and whatnot. Not only was it a Semi PVP event but it was a marketing pinnacle of the time. I loved sitting up there seeing what sold for what and even buying myself at the time a full library rune book set :)

I love seeing Player run events like this, Run by the players and held by the players (With little to no mod interaction)

which also brings me to the point that the in game auction Farrr surpasses the crappy forum auctions that were held on my last shard :/

In game FTW!

I agree with the checkers (well, chess). Having an improved chess/checkers board would really be cool.

What would be badass is a life sized chessboard somewhere where the players could be the pieces! then PVP when one was to take the other... O.o

The player controlling the game would select his players and which were to become which pieces according to how good they were at pvp

So the queen or king would be his best pvp players followed by the rest and pawns ultimately being the noobs of the bunch...

Ps: I trade mark this game as Aluster's Chess

I agree, an improved board for chess/checkers would be cool. Also for those interested, I submit a version of orcish chess called Kriurk created by one of my favorite orc roleplayers. When IPY launches, I challenge anyone present to a game!

Great ideas (hahah, love the "human" chess pieces one and of course the olympics); yeah, even on OSI Atlantic back in the day I mostly enjoyed following roleplaying events around player hubs, or official quests done by Seers; PvP for me has always been just a matter of defending myself while having fun doing other things and I plan to do the same on IPY 2.0 (even though I might try some O/C for a change).
