It was the original intro to UO. When you clicked on the UO Icon, this came up. Old players will remember it.

"The original start up screen from Ultima Online. Best MMO ever. What are you doing in space, Richard Garriott? You're a game developer, you don't belong up there. You can't even write code in space."

Still get the chills sometimes when I hear Stones and think about logging into UO beta. I used to get pissed at the chest when I couldn't connect!

This was the stone age of UO :P

Dialup days sucked. But I still liked the chest.

Stones will always come hand to hand with this intro. Rarely can you perfect a song so well from scratch. Diz did some pretty good remixes of the songs. I plan on switching some of his in, and leaving some.
What internet speed did you use?

I was 56k for the longest time, but I was stalking the high-speed people and had DSL the day it was available. UO got WAY easier after that ;)

Yeah. I didn't think many people knew me though, so that'd be weird.

I've always liked this Stones remix

And this one... oh man. This has always been a secret gem of the internet for me. I laughed so hard I cried the first time I watched it. David playing Stones. Hahahahah, terrible green screen, default windows media player visualization overlay, and that quick screw up at 45 seconds where you can see him selecting the background from what looks like Windows 3.1. David is a true god among men.

Of course I remember it :). First time I've actually seen the sequence was back in July '97 during the beginning stages of the beta. Hehe, the beta client, if I remember well, was about 550MB. Downloaded it through a ISDN line at about 11kb/s :P

Old school to the max. Love that good ol' chest. I can say I did get perturbed a few times when that darn thing wouldn't open, but I never blamed it on the poor chest. When you finally heard the creak of that thing opening up all that anxiety of waiting turned into excitement and glee.

No idea why they scrapped it. It was as much a part of UO as pking and smithing was.
