We've all done stupid stuff. I was many, many weeks into the game before I discovered what a rune was. I felt so accomplished when I was finally able to buy one of each weapon type and place them in beautiful organized rows inside of boxes in my bank.
My favorite probably has to be within the first few days and I realized players could tame animals. I first stumbled upon this when I saw a guy tame a horse walking outside of Moonglow. He then got on it and rode it off. I immediately ran to the inn, logged off, and made a character with 50 animal taming.
I tried to remember some of the words the guy said to the horse when he was trying to tame it.
"Nice horse."
"Good horse."
"Will you be my friend horse?"
Nothing.
Then, I realized there were asterisks besides what he was saying. Maybe he was emoting the speech and that made a difference?
/ Nice horse.
/ Good horse.
Nothing. I gave up, logged back off the tamer and got right back on my character to try to gain some archery by safely shooting some animals behind the fences at Moonglow Zoo.

After installing UO for the first time, I created my character in Trinsic. I walked around trying to figure the game out and came across an NPC vendor. I wasn't sure how to buy or sell, but I had learned to move items around by then.
I dragged all 100 of my starting gold on top of the NPC and let go... The bastard even said 'I thank thee for the coins!' or something to that effect. Needless to say, I felt quite embarrassed.

Hmmm... Probably all the times I had to chase after someone to ask them where the moongate was, or figuring out NPC's weren't actually real people. I was like 12, give me a break.

Dire wolves--The Bane of Newbies. I can't count how many times I died to one on my way to go mining or to Despise..
Trying to sell a bardiche "THAT RAISES TACTICS BY 10!!!" (or was it 15?) at Brit Bank for a few hours was probably my apogee of newbiness. I had picked it up off the ground and thought I found an incredible item that some fool dropped.. It was also unidentified..
I also remember how excited I was when I bought my first Light Archer Suit. I died about an hour later and lost it. Took me a day or two to save up to get another one..

I also still remember getting a party invitation that said "X wants to invite you to his tea party" and to this day I have never seen it again nor understood how the person did it. Of course I went to the tea party. That isn't an embarrassing moment per se, but it still confuses me.

Well, I bought a Large Forge from a player thinking it was the patio house.... But I used to run into real noobs and turn my fonts red, go into war mode, and emote *Pale Face is attacking you!* and watch them run to the guard boundry and stand there shouting GUARDS BANK SAVE ME RECDU RECSU!! I felt embarrassed for them too. Wow, I never thought I would be an Uncle Rico.
"Are you serious?" asked Kip with amazement

The best was when emoting the * is attacking you! in war mode was when they actually jumped into war mode and attacked back. Call guards and loot.

I don't know guys, the animal taming one is pretty bad... so is dying to a chicken and selling a "uber" bardiche, but I HONESTLY think this guy takes the cake...plus a few pies, and maybe 100 big macs. Seriously, you will LOVE THIS.
Don't mind the second ag3 garbage, we all know where the real UO is at.. In Por Ylem 2.0

Well I remember real black dye tubs (back when they had the regular "dye tub" title) being so damn cool to me when I first started, I saved up my first 250k to buy one and was scammed. The old scam of setting a black dyed wizard hat on top of a regular dye tub in a bag. Of course I didnt know you could report such a scam, so I immediately turned around and did it myself and ended up in jail for a week. I was very embarrassed but I did it to myself!

I've actually got a few here. I must have been a slow learner.
When I first started in 98 or 99 I logged in from West Brit Inn. I started to walk North West Towards the mage/archery shop. I noticed nice men naked except for grey robes standing outside the healers so I decided that i'd have a nice chat to these respectable looking fellows. After saying "Hail" to them and explaining to them that I was new I noticed they both suddenly stood right next to me. All of a sudden I noticed one of them steal my gold. The other guy took my knife so I started to run. They were able to keep getting infront of me (I had a slow connection - logging to ?Pacific? from Australia). Eventually they took everything, even my book (this was in the day where nothing was newbiefied).
Ok I was a newbie for a long time so bear with me.
I eventually decided that Minoc was the town for me and that I wanted to become a miner. I didnt know about moongates so I decided to run there with a few random other newbies. As I got out of town I noticed a man, naked with only a deer mask on. His name: ImaNewbie. As he ran towards me I knew he was up to no good. He stole some ingots which I had worked hard mining at brit for (Only those few small rocks near the graveyard, I didnt know anywhere else until someone told me about minoc). A few of the randoms said "kill him" and, armed only with my trusty pickaxe, I attacked with with the randoms. We kept chasing him into the bushes and all of a sudden the randoms were no longer around. ImaNewbie uttered the words "An Ex Por" and then I froze. After an explode and an ebolt I had lost everything that I had worked so hard for. Ofcourse I was angry at the time but it made me want to become an Anti-Thief / PK.
So I eventually made it to minoc and started mining in relative peace (there were still theives etc there but I was able to make a living). After seeing men with full suits of plate on horses I decided that I wanted to be a knight like them, the first thing I needed? a suit of plate. I worked my ass off until I got about 5k, then some lovely chap offered me a full suit for guess what? 5k. After opening the trade window with him he would only offer me the suit of armour in a pouch. Stupidly I agreed as this was a good price back in the day. Anyway I heard a dye tub sound and he clicked the tick. Thinking nothing of it I clicked the tick aswell. As soon as this happened I said "Thank you" but he just recalled. I opening the backpack and there was nothing in there. I had just been scammed my life savings.
Ok so back to mining. I eventually was able to mine my way up to 65str to wear the plate armour and was able to buy myself all the plate plus a horse and a sword. God I looked cool and thought I was invincible (even though at that stage I had 0 swords/tactics). I asked for a gate to brit and someone obliged, luckily for me in hindsight, he was not one of those nefarious characters referred to in my previous stories so I arrived in Britian. I was strutting my stuff in Britian when someone ran into the bank screaming "theres REDS north of the GY. Come help". A mage offered his services to gate so me, being the great anti-pk/thief I was decided to jump into the gate to join the battle. When we arrived the reds ran back a bit as there were about 15 blues. I chased one guy for a bit and he suddenly stopped, there were 2 other reds with him and about 5 blues behind me. I was closest to the main guy. The other blues just ran. I heard those infamous words "An Ex Por" and shortly after I was dead.
Anyway it took me a good 2-3 years before I eventually turned to the dark side. Starting off with theiving, house looting, scamming to eventually pking. Oh and I also made an assload of money stealing house deeds from people (stole 2 in my day, lol).

Not about me, but definitely the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in any online game.
Probably 98ish, I was dead running to Skara Brae from Destard. Ghosting and running along the western mountain area west of Destard towards Skara. Saw two blue names on All-Names in a small house along the mountainside. Went inside as a ghost, not showing myself, the moment I went thru the door.... wow. A couple RPers emoting sex stuff a d talking dirty. I was rolling around lafing irl but I didn't show myself for a few more seconds. After a few more *moans* and **** like that, I typed out lololol, they saw the ghosted "OOoooooooooooOo" a few tiles away and immediately one banned me. I still to this day cannot get over those 2 nerds sexting in UO.
I've been an actual member of two guilds over the years, and both guilds have been great over the games and times, but... both have been guilds that have seen marriages break up over someone cheating with someone else from the game we were playing. First guild was in UO way back around 99 and thr second was in WoW a few months after release.
My most embarassing moment in a game, **** it too many to count, I've either removed such bad experieces from my memory entirely or they simply weren't that embarassing. I remember one time I applied to a guild of k3wl dudes when I was like 13 and UO had been out for maybe a year and I wasn't good enough nor was my character. That was the only time I was ever turned away from a group of players in an online game. They paid for it later on, not in a vengeful way, just matter of factly. Fortune is always swinging one way or another in a game - there is always a winner or loser, very rarely are draws the true end result. The biggest rival I had in WoW for the first 2 years of the game, I ha a record against him of 1-1 all time. We never had a third match to settle the score... that is the single regret I have from that game.
I guess that's my point... regrets stick with me over time about **** I never finished, not bad moments. We all have bad moments, I guess none of mine involved drama moreso just me being stupid or ignorant to something. Like in UO, my first death ever on OSI... my first char I made with max int, you know, "Ima be smart as ****... yeah..." Of course I had like 10 str/HPs, anyways long story short, I got weakened by a lich and 1 shot by a Vas Flam.

My very first experiences of ultima online took place at my friends house. He had the super at-the-time fancy ISDN connection. We're talking around 100k bandwidth as opposed to 56k. It was pretty awesome at the time in 1997, which is a big part of the story, because in 1997 I was about 10 years old. We're talking 4th / 5th grade here. We'd play on his older brothers account before we got our personal accounts to play on. We had some obsession with Trinsic. We loved it. Before the undead invasion Trinsic was a bustling town with plenty of people running around everywhere, at least on Lake Superior. There was a pretty fun PVP scene outside the western path that lead out of the city and between the moongate. We never really left Trinsic or its perimeter.
In the very earliest days we made money a couple ways. The first way was we'd steal books from bookshelves and sell them for about 2gp or so to the provisioner. There was a lot of guard whacking involved. We made our first 5k this way. It took forever.
Then we got scammed into buying a copper key, which we were told was a key to a castle. We didn't realized we were scammed for several days. We found what we thought was the castle and started finishing it with our brand new carpenters we made. We eventually caught on were devastated.

That was hilarious
one time I watching my friend play when we were both new and he was trying to impress me with his magery. First he fizzled about 8 times trying to cast Energy bolt. The entire time his guildmate was chasing him and trying to melee him. So he decided he would teach his guildmate a lesson and use a poison wall scroll (at the West Brit bank).
The hilarious part was when a couple people at the bank decided to walk thru the poison and he got guard whacked and looted. I was laughing so hard at him because he was trying to show off that he knew how to use magery and I didn't.

my best friend and i were chasing down this dude we hated and we totally had him dead to rights.
unfortunately, i had my friend set to last target (from an xheal) and when i went to cast the finishing blow on this jerk i accidentally just hit last target and cast it on my friend (and killed him).
i subsequently see "i was killed by snapcase (me)!" in my party chat, followed by the jerk "LOLOLOL"ing and running off screen.
about 10 seconds later i hear "DUDE IM GOING TO COME THROUGH THE COMPUTER AND KILL YOU IRL!" in teamspeak.
definitely was embarrassed and my friend would not stop harassing me about it the next day at school. still makes me lol/blush when i think about it.

On IPY1.0 I thought bone armor was the bee's knees!
Running around with 50 mage, 50 resist, 35 healing, GM swords and tactics.
Bone armor and a newb katana.
Some guy (Elmothetimid) stopped me mid run to the glow graveyard and gave me a full plate suit. Told me never to wear bone armor again or he would kill me.
I though I was bad in that new shiny armor, but promptly got killed by a lich.
I didn't wear bone armor again for a few days, as I didn't want te guy to come back and kill me.

Easy top 3, all bad for different reasons.
1) After muling for weeks to save up for a boat, and owning it for all of 5 minutes, I looted a blue corpse (with my boat key in my pack, like a boss) because I thought no one was around. Somebody hidden called the guards, stole the boat.
2) Insta-rezzing 5 times in a row (the limit) to a harpy that flew onto my second boat. I eventually called a GM and he deleted it and rezzed me.
3) Casper, on Atlantic, said he was selling a 2 story for 700k, so I offered him 300k and two very nice houses (one was two screens away from the Brit mine, the other was on the Minoc peninsula right next to the mines and the slums). He said he'd never heard of Tradespot. He scammed me out of everything.

I picked up empty bowls of food at the bank that people dropped, thinking they were rare bowls, and tried to sell them in bulk at the bank.
I seen someone at the bank selling a black dye tub and thought all dyetubs were rare, so I bought a dyetub, made it red, and tried to sell it for 20-30k. Someone eventually told me it wasn't rare.
also i was in front of brit gy and a newb asked me to spar so we could gain skills together, and i didnt know how to flag properly and he didn't want to, so I just got frustrated and attacked him first and we were healing eachother.
this mage pvper came out and two spelled me and the other guy and took everything i had. (i carried 100 items on me like a second bank [nothing useful im sure] and this was devestating)
i complained to my friend who was a bit better than me but probably only 80 skills, and he came to the graveyard demanding that the guy give the items back to me. he didnt, my friend attacked him and was two spelled as well and dry looted. he didnt talk to me for several days over this, and resed, came back and begged the guy to give him his ruin sword back.

I stocked trapped boxes on one of my vendors, intending to sell them, i didn't realize that customers would blow up while browsing. Although this was one of the fumiest things I ever saw ( I was stocking another vendor when the explosion occurred) I was very embarrassed to have done this to my customers.

Not really embarrassing for me but more rather for the victims. I used to beat the crap out of people at BGY for fun and just take there pants nothing els just the pants.
My most embarrassing moment was being surrounded in my stone tower in divinity and somehow getting killed by *******s in orc masks with a fair amount of loot on me, and no matter how many alts I tried to run into the stone tower they would always find a way to kill em Via staking boxes or some bull**** tactic. Needless to say my bottle of viagra, skull candles and a few other random rares decayed right there on the spot and all i could do is sit as a ghost.

I came across some player vendors outisde brit while killing birds for feathers. I thought they were real players. There was several standing in a strait line like they were having a meeting, but non talking. I remember thinking I was sly and made some rude comments at their clothes, then making a dash to safety incase one got mad at me. I kept coming back, until one day I decided that I was just going to keep trash talking them because they never did anything back. People would walk by and watch me talk to these vendors a lot. How embarrasing.

UO:R just hit a little bit ago and I was in trammel. There I was. Pickaxe ready to be used: 100 mining, 100 meditation, 95+ magery and 95+ evalint, killing anything that happened to move. I thought it was novel to kill things that flagged blue, so that's what I did (wandering healers). I kill a few and think I'm the greatest thing that ever happened to the shard. And then it happened. Everything seemed normal; I just killed another one... then... BAM. I get teleported to feluccia... so confused... I scratch my head and wonder what happened fiddling around with whatever was there. Then I click on myself. Red. WHAT THE #$*(&%#&($#&*!!!!!! #*%#&&*#$&*!!*(@$&!(*!$&*!*(!@#*($&!@&*!#.

My most embarrassing moment occurred a couple of months after I started playing on Sonoma. This was before the house ownership system and "i ban thee." I had my first house on Serpent's Hold and a buddy and I were going there. One of us gated to the house and made the classic newbie mistake of doing it too close to the bank. We saw a member of an infamous thieves guild pop out of the gate with us near the house but he ran off screen, and I assumed we were safe to run in the house and shut the door behind us. Wrong... He of course ended up inside the house with us, and in spite of both of us being archers (albeit newbie archers) during the time when archery was king, the guy managed to take us both down very quickly with a warfork. The embarassing part was me picking up one of the chests full of loot in my house and spamming my recall macro - but being too panicked and naive to realize that I couldn't recall because I was overloaded.
Needless to say my house was looted. The guy ended up being pretty cool though. He kept the loot but sold me the key back for some measly sum, 10k I think, and though I had reservations about that, he never showed up to the house and nothing ever went missing. He actually ended up becoming one of my close friends in game and I ended up in a couple of his guilds throughout my UO playtime. That was actually a fairly common experience for me, great enemies becoming great friends. And IMO, that is why UO is the greatest game that I've ever played.
