I did a quick search and I believe I confirmed that runebooks are not blessed, so they will drop upon death. Are they also stealable on this server?

I have never played a server where runebooks arent blessed since the early days of UO, and I dont really remember it that much. Perhaps I didnt think about it very much before they became blessed. But now I cant imagine a world where runebooks can be stolen and dropped on death all the time. I suppose I could live with it, really just means more mana usage for non-mages, and more regs usage for all. Its just an inconvenience in my opinion and I really have never seen the point of non blessed runebooks

Blessed runebooks do drop on death and are stealable.

There comes a point during the server where players could be running around with 10 blessed runebooks zipping around.

The problem with blessed runebooks is as Pud puts it, people would run around with 10+ runebooks with spots marked everywhere so they'd never have to run and could just insta gank and then recall off again and insta gank.. ad infinitum. No blessed runebooks at least makes it a little more of a hassle to play the game that way.

so they are not blessed is what you are saying? and running around with 10 runebooks is a bad thing

They aren't blessed. What they are saying is that with blessed runebooks there is hardly any good old-fashioned traveling by foot. People just recall rather than ever run anywhere. With runebooks, people die, find a healer, recall back home with a charge, and they're back in a couple of minutes.

I understand and even agree with the idea that having non-blessed books promotes more traveling. I dont like the argument that it makes it harder on PKs though, because for the same reason it makes it harder on them to do what they want to do, it makes it harder on all people.

I'll miss my blessed runebooks, but it's probably a change for the better.

Plus its ultra fun when it's your turn to loot the full runebook.

I don't think anyone has been saying it is a PK specific mechanic, but it probably does have a few more downsides to a PK in comparison to blessed runebooks than to others. PK's can't bump around dungeons as easily (really, it isn't that much more difficult, which is why I say it isn't really a nerf to anyone, just a mechanic change). Most of their prey isn't spending time bumping around dungeons, they're static.

But the point of the unblessed runebooks is simply to attempt to remove the fluidity with which one can bump around random areas. It just happens that PK's do this a lot.

Runebooks suck, and are only useful to autobot macroers, rune houses or just plain left in the bank. If you die, you should lose them.

Rune books are fine, I like them better than having a bag of runes scattered around. Making them blessed is just silly though, looting a rune is one of the great joys of UO. Especially if it is somehow paired with a house key.

Looting runes also promotes PvP since you find out where people live.

IPY1 was like this if I remember correctly. I just had a runebook backpack in my bank full of my runebooks and carried a single rune with me that went to n'jel bank. What's so complicated about that besides "QQ my recall reg usage!"

I've always liked runebooks. They represent a sideways advancement/loot mechanic that is a lot more interesting than "ooh 5 more hp."

Unblessed fo' sho.

You can always equip a runebook to avoid thieves. Useful for buying regs.

I wouldn't mind it if 1 runebook was allowed to be blessed per person, anymore and the game would only keep 1 with the person (even if all were blessed) and drop the rest. But its fine how it is, just keep a city runebook in your bank and house and ur all set

Definitely dont want to see runebooks blessed. I would like to see detective books unblessed. Not sure about spell books, could be interesting though

only an idiot would carry a rune to his house around with him. non-blessed runebooks doesn't promote foot travel (which is retarded without horses, anyway). it just means people keep a rune to a rune house and spend an extra few regs and 11 mana wherever they need to go.

it's really nothing more than a nuisance. but it's a minor one.
