View Full Version : Everyone on a boat should flag criminal when the boat commits a criminal action.

As it stands, people will sail up to you with newbie characters and cannons and start firing, and you have no choice but to run or just kill the cannonier, in which case they could have another logged out on the boat ready to take a count. I think it makes sense for everyone on a "pirate" boat like that to flag, because you cannot even fire back at the ship with blues on board unless you are a murderer (or willing to take counts) yourself.

Oh hmm that is very interesting.
During Beta people certainly didn't care about getting counts, so some issues like this were not addressed.
Thanks for bringing it up!

BTW, Hes basing this on an example which is a figment of his imagination. Sen, as you remember, there was no blues on our boat but myself. If you aren't willing to risk a murder count for a boat, you deserve to lose it.
and PS. Ban ghost boating.

And if I have a paladin on my account what should I do?

You should be out killing reds. Not bladespiriting boats.

The complaint is this. Let's say I am sailing around, and let's also say that I am a paladin or other positive karma player. JoeBob and Carl the reds, along with their pal (and blue healer) Milkbone the blue come sailing up to you. Joebob opens fire with the cannons and "is attacking" every character on your boat. He flags criminal and is eligible for n murder counts (n being the amount on your boat). If you kill Joebob with magery, Carl will just take over the cannon, but you CANNOT fire your own cannon back at their vessel because you will then attack everyone on their boat, even Milkbone the blue healer. This gives you no way out of the situation aside from running and taking damage or taking murder counts. If you are a paladin, then this would be even worse for you I suppose.
I think that there should be a revising of the boat system in general. It's true that ghosts on boats (blocking movement or docking) has been a T2A staple form of griefing, and it's really quite annoying here considering the boats have cannons. Hence, when a ghost jumps on your boat and begins spamming drop anchor, while his pal in a boat full of blue healers comes over to cannon you. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it except shoot back and get murder counts (in which case you still have an undockable, unmovable boat because of the ghost), die to the cannon fire and lose everything, or simply recall and count your boat as a loss.

Honestly I don't see any problem with the whole boat flagging grey. But the whole boat shouldn't take counts from cannon shots.
Btw I've never actually used a blue healer.

I agree with you there, the whole boat should not take counts, but they should all flag grey, and the cannoner should be responsible for the murders.

it never ceases to amaze me how good UOers are at finding loopholes in the systems and then using them to **** over other people

im sorry but two reds cannot have a blue healer at all. they can only have a grey healer. are you sure you thought this through?

fine.
then the ones who made dummy blue chars. a couple of dummy blue chars means all BUT one can xheal and force the other boat to not fire cannons in order to prevent taking murder counts. however, devils' advocate: woe be to the boat o' blues who get boarded, only to have the boarder fire off a cannon to turn everyone grey.
side thought: maybe it should take something to fire cannons... say, 75 tactics or something? a 50/50 blue dummy char shouldn't be able to kill people so easily (i made a macro in beta that made sync-dumping cannons pretty sick. def too powerful for a noob char to control at little-to-no cost)

hmmmmmm.... is there any way to code cannon fire with tactics?
ie at 50 tacs your shot would go wide 50% of the time, and at 100tacs you'd be 100% accurate?

If someone boarded your boat and fired the cannon making all of you grey, well, you should know who is on your boat and keep the planks locked.
As for the skill requirement on cannons, that seems a bit harsh. Some templates might not want that particular skill. I enjoy how the cannon balls smoothly fly towards the boat and would like to see them calculated in real time. What I mean is, rather than selecting a boat to shoot at, or a player to kill, the tile (coordinate) of whatever the cannoneer selects is chosen and the cannon hits that target after a certain delay given by the speed of the cannon, type of potion, or something. This way, it might even be possible for a boat to move out of the way of incomming fire, and it adds some skill to operating the cannons.

well there's no skill required whatsoever for pirating right now, which i'm half-against. i don't see anything wrong with a wanna-be pirate plugging away at tactics if that's what he wants to do. i think that tactically it'd make pirating more interesting if you took out their best cannoner. maybe it doesn't have to be as harsh as what i listed above, but as it stands now, any joe shmoe idiot can sync dump 3 cannons into whomever he wants with pinpoint precision. (i thought about saying "75 tacs or magery", but honestly, what better skill to tie cannons to than tactics? mages don't NEED to fire cannons so accurately)
as for the grey thing yea i get you. was only mentioning the devil's advocate scenario to take into account. personally i still like the idea of cannon-firing greying out everyone on board.

It shouldn't be criminal, but it should be flagged grey.
