How the hell do you really get people to come and play this game? To most people nowadays the 2d graphics look like a pile of shit. Can anyone come up with some good wordage to describe UO at the time this shard is "based"?

Skill based MMO PVP. A virtual sandbox.

You will never get a graphics person to play, I look more for older gamers that remember the times when we had 4 colors and a lot of text. You will at least have a shot with them :) In general, it is very tough to get someone to try UO and stick with it. We all know how great it can be, they don't have those rose colored glasses.

I like to sell the virtual world aspect of it. There are murderers, opportunists, thieves, merchants, crafters, dragonslayers... dragontamers! You have the opportunity to be a real hero. It's not like WoW where being a hero means killing the last boss of a raid dungeon. It means you can really be someone people look up to. Or an evil ne'er-do-well. It's just up to you.

People also dig the idea that you can have your own castle that isn't instanced. You can decorate it and people will see it.

Most of the people this shard will attract know what UO was, and miss it. It's more adverting what the shard isn't...neon colors and AoS...la

It'd be great if new people would sign up for this forum and answer that sticky "How'd you get here?" thread so we can see what kind of new people we're attracting.

I think harking on the fact that it is FREE is a good step too. Non-instanced is a huge reason why UO feels so much better than any game I've played so far. Even Darkfall wouldn't let you run around as a ghost :)

How would you describe the combat to somebody?

Skill based, fast paced, and open combat

Even a less developed character can beat a more developed character if the player is better. (See: Anti-WoW)
Absolutely NOT item dependent PvP. You can fight naked and still win.

Don't mention vent sync dropping :)

Yeah, try not to mention that. ;)
