Came across this today:
http://www.mortalonline.com/faq
Looks like some UO vets are working on it:
"Our core team comes from the beta days of Ultima Online, and we are driven to build a game with the same freedom of spirit, but using today’s technology. Veteran gamers will notice that we pay homage to many of the old sandbox PvP games and we try very hard to incorporate many of the features that we have always seen as primary for the genre."
Has anyone checked this game out, is it new or has it been around for a while?
I'm gonna check out the 14 day trial this weekend probably.

It had a launch comparable to Darkfall (terrible) so I never bothered with it. Maybe it's gotten better though.

It's a shame that it's absolutely terrible. There is a free demo if you wanna check it out. Very very good ideas, very very bad execution.

I havent played since beta, and shortly after release.
Anyone have a recent opinion of the game? I lovvvved the ideas and the style of this game (VERY reminescent of UO) but it just had wayyyyyy to many bugs and problems.

I played beta aswell and I gave up on the game. Having 1 bank per town was a pain in the ass too if you wanted to explore the world you needed to carey everything on you :/
Soo many gliches and bugs just made the game unfun. Some of it was neat, certainly a nock off of UO mixed with EQ.
The only thing i praise of the game was the night sky, it had real constalations in it that you could see.

I was a little interested after reading this thread and their website.... searched for reviews..... they all trashed the game from bad to worst game EVAR!
This prompted me to research more... started investigating free MMORPGs.... I'm going to check out Lord of the Rings Online now.

at first glace i thought it was aweseome.. until ive seen some videos and the anims or netcode or both are terrible, even projects/hacks that add multiplayer to single player games look way better.
i was meaning to at least give the demo a chance but they ask you to have 9gb free ON YOUR C: DRIVE for their damn demo?

Just tried it, my friend lost all the loot he had accumlated over days because of a bug that a GM actually had some fault in creating (toled him to suicide because of some bug where he couldent get of hes horse, when he ressurects hes bag is on hes head, and he cant get into it, neither can the GM, after some time the loot disapears and when my friend asks if the GM can replace the silver he lost, he is told that its against their policy). Aanyways, so we explain the situation in a well mannered way on the public forum, and it gets deleted, because Star Vault dosent allow their customers to complain on the forums.
I wouldent reccomend this game to anyone, its been on its way for 2 years and it is still filled with bugs, and Star vault treats their customers as scammers

it has penises with physics so they sway. i give them props for that. i think darkfall is the better game but that ones basically dead last time i checked too.
the problem with these games is they are created by game companies that just don't have the funds to release a really polished game imo. so they flop, and then people say there's no market for "hardcore pvp" games. this is what i hate Blizzard the most for, they have the most successful MMO, they have tons of money from that and their other games (diablo 3 was the fastest selling game ever or some ****) and they don't take any risks with it. That's why they are so successful i guess but it's really a shame, because they're in a position to try new **** and advance games but they don't. all their games are rehashes of previous ones, which are for the most part all ripped off from other games before that.
if they'd make a game in the vein of UO with all the funding they have i guarantee it would be successful but they're a bunch of **** suckers.

Agreed, they lack the funds, but really id say they lack someone like Richard garriot, i mean the man had worked on the world of sosaria for over 20 years before UO launched, on top of that the platform wasent the most important for him, it was creating a great RPG.
It seems as if Mortal have tried to hard to press a world into the Unreal engine.
