The Green Lantern was okay. I just get tired of the Hero being a pretty boy with some petty problems in life. Good Looks = Hero = goodness.
The best character in the movie was the semi-villain played by John Malkovich. He was made to be ugly, balding, and impotent. These physical characteristics made it easier to perceive him as bad for today's audience. He was full of jealousy and rejection, which were his motives for the bad deeds he commits. He wanted the girl that the hero got. He read the thought's of his father who thought he was a worthless loser. So, no love in life, no good looks, and no acceptance made him a monster.
I want a superhero who is more like a Peter Parker who doesn't get the girl. Let's see how good he can be with all the rejection the villains face in life. The ring just had to choose a guy who was a respected member of society with looks and a hot chick, which he completely takes for granted. Without these attributes, it seems to suggest a person is less worthy to be a hero or something we all inspire to be. Villains are more like the average person than the Heros ever will be.
The message of the film about "just being human" was nothing inspirational. Our weaknesses, are our strengths. Garbage. It also somehow made the emotion of fear as something to be shunned. The main villain used fear as his weapon. Fear is something we all have, but the movie twisted the idea of fear as a lack of courage, which means a coward. The hero struggled to overcome his fear, to be more like his father. The good power was will. It was the same old crap as black magic vs white magic (dumbeldore vs voldemort). Jedi vs Sith (obi-wan vs. vader) Fear/Hate is more powerful except against a wielder of true goodness.
Fear makes people give in to evil, or it warps people to be evil...
I know I am a bit off on some of the ideas of the movie, but this is the main things that I noticed. The hero could have been something we could all relate to, as opposed to a guy with Hollywood hair and an athletes physique.
This movie also could have been decent, but I thought it was just passable. Worth a rent IMO
next up is Transformers 3
