The Green Lantern was okay. I just get tired of the Hero being a pretty boy with some petty problems in life. Good Looks = Hero = goodness.

The best character in the movie was the semi-villain played by John Malkovich. He was made to be ugly, balding, and impotent. These physical characteristics made it easier to perceive him as bad for today's audience. He was full of jealousy and rejection, which were his motives for the bad deeds he commits. He wanted the girl that the hero got. He read the thought's of his father who thought he was a worthless loser. So, no love in life, no good looks, and no acceptance made him a monster.

I want a superhero who is more like a Peter Parker who doesn't get the girl. Let's see how good he can be with all the rejection the villains face in life. The ring just had to choose a guy who was a respected member of society with looks and a hot chick, which he completely takes for granted. Without these attributes, it seems to suggest a person is less worthy to be a hero or something we all inspire to be. Villains are more like the average person than the Heros ever will be.

The message of the film about "just being human" was nothing inspirational. Our weaknesses, are our strengths. Garbage. It also somehow made the emotion of fear as something to be shunned. The main villain used fear as his weapon. Fear is something we all have, but the movie twisted the idea of fear as a lack of courage, which means a coward. The hero struggled to overcome his fear, to be more like his father. The good power was will. It was the same old crap as black magic vs white magic (dumbeldore vs voldemort). Jedi vs Sith (obi-wan vs. vader) Fear/Hate is more powerful except against a wielder of true goodness.

Fear makes people give in to evil, or it warps people to be evil...

I know I am a bit off on some of the ideas of the movie, but this is the main things that I noticed. The hero could have been something we could all relate to, as opposed to a guy with Hollywood hair and an athletes physique.

This movie also could have been decent, but I thought it was just passable. Worth a rent IMO

next up is Transformers 3

Its like Super 8, they aren't trying to appeal to thinking adults. Its one of the many summer time kids out of school movie.
Normally its the 4th of july weekend, and its usually a Wil Smith movie. I think Harry Potter has a lock on the summer blockbuster tho and thats around July 17th ?

I am not sure there was anything in the Green Lantern trailer that appealed to me. I just can't bring myself to go see it. I always liked GLgrowing up. I thought he was kinda cool, but I always opted to spend my loot on Marvel books because they were more appealing on a human level. I just never got Superman. A dude who can breathe frost, shoot eyebeams, see through walls, was invincible except for exposure to a mysterious green rare rock from outerspace (that everyone seemed to get their hands on).

Batman was always a far more interesting character, because he really had no super ability. What Frank Miller did with Dark Knight Returns and Batman Year One was just amazing.

Agreed. I had to force myself to sit through the entire movie. They bombed the GL franchise with this movie.

Green Lantern was a great film! Being sure a super hero buff as I am I can honestly say I saw one bunk thing in the whole movie. What I didnt like was when he was learning to fly and his head looked like it was photoshoped onto his body, thats it! Great story line and great cast. As for Hecktor, he was good with his role. I was surprised to see Shawshank dude in there as Hecker's father. IMO A+ cast. Ryan redeemed himself from Deadpool.

As for the "good looks", no one is going to go pay to see some ugly ass dude save the world, you right tho; ppl will relate more to a more "down to earth" hero, but hero's are "bigger" than life and need to be everything that most ppl are not.

This film was 10000000 times better than Thor, which was a upset to me. The next big one will be Cpt. America. I cant wait for that to come out!

Harry Potter comes out the 15th, thats going to be great as well as Transformers 3 :)

(Great Topic BTW)

I will definately see Harry Potter opening night as it's almost a cultural thing for my generation and the generation below me. I know it's a generic story, but I many of us "grew-up" with the characters from Hogwarts. I cannot wait to finally end the series, and unlike a Star Wars fan, I will leave it fully behind even as the franchise eventually comes back, whored-out with additional content to squeeze out more cash.

Transformers will be one of those movies I have to see just once almost exclusively because they are still using the real Optimus voice actor, and it's a big budget action film.

I skipped out on Thor because I was too busy.

I will admit it. I am a sucker for films that become cultural symbols, like the entire Twighlight series, and Highlander from my days as a little kid. Yes, they suck in a way, but they are a part of who we are as a whole.

X-men cheered me up, because it got better with the last film. I was nearly ready to pull-the-plug on the Superhero genre completely before X-men First Class redeemed the whole genre for me. Sadly, the genre will linger around, mostly poorly directed because it remains guaranteed profit.

I miss the years when films like Matrix just slipped in there and blew us all away. Before a sci-fi genre dominated the market.
