Paladins
Paladins are the embodiment of player justice on IPY. Their primary directive is to bring about a quick and merciless death to other players who are bent on chaos, death, and grief.
Defenders of the helpless and bane of the Undead, Paladins play a vital role in maintaining peace and order throughout Sosaria. Those who answer the call and become Paladins are held to a stricter code of conduct that will confine them with one hand, and empower them with the other.

Becoming a Paladin
In order to embark on the path of becoming a Paladin, the following criteria must be met:
- If you are reported for murder, all characters on your account are removed from the Paladin's Guild.
- You cannot become a Paladin if any character on your account has at least one murder count.
- You cannot be in the Thieves guild.
- You cannot join a town militia.
To begin the quest, you must venture to Trinsic and speak to a Paladin on the east side of the city, on Paladin Isle, near the ankh.
Find a Paladin and say:
Join
The Paladin will send you on a series of quests before he allows you into the Order of the Shining Serpent.
The Paladin Quest
The quest to become a Paladin consists of 3 phases.
- Phase 1: The Paladin will send you to Deceit to find the Paladin Sword. This sword is placed randomly on the ground. Once you have the sword, return to the Paladin and give him the sword.
- Phase 2: The Paladin will send you to Hythloth to search for the Paladin Shield. This shield also spawns randomly on the ground. Once you have the shield, return to the Paladin and give him the shield. He will then place both the shield and the sword that you brought him on the ground near the ankh.
- Phase 3: An invasion will begin, and as an aspiring Paladin, it is your duty to defend the city! The objective is to defend the civilians that spawn, and protect the holy relics you just gathered. If you do not defend the civilians and the relics, you will fail the quest and be forced to start the chain again.
The Invasion
Outside the West Gate of Trinsic on the road, you will find 2 moongates. From these moongates, monsters will spawn in waves that you must overcome.
- Waves 1-2: The first wave may take a few minutes to begin, so be patient. The first two are fairly easy, mostly Skeletons.
- Waves 3-5: These waves will become increasingly difficult. First with a Lich, then more than one, then Bone Knights.
- After these waves, you will get a message warning you that two Daemons have spawned inside the city limits. You must find them, as they do NOT spawn with the other waves. There will be one attacking a civilian, and another on Paladin Island near the relics. Due to the distance between the two, it is NOT advised you attempt to do this phase alone.
Once you successfully defend the the city, you will be admitted into the Order.
Murderer Penalties
When a murderer is killed by a Paladin, he remains dead until resurrecting at the Chaos Shrine, where the murderer is faced with one of two options:
- The murderer can choose statloss, which will lower all of their skills by between 5 and 15% depending on the number of short term murder counts. This option does not cost any money.
- The murderer can also choose to pay "reparations", equal to 1000 gold per murder count. Half of this money disappears as a gold sink, the other half is deposited in the bank of the victims, along with a note telling the victim which Paladin avenged them. Choosing this option will preserve all of your skills and stats at their current level.
Both of these options will reset the murderer's short term counts to 4. Staying dead and macroing off counts is still an option.
Dying to a non-Paladin has no new penalties associated with it.
Platinum
Executing righteous justice against vagabonds has it's rewards.. and that reward is Platinum!
Platinum is the standard currency of the Paladin system. Paladins collect platinum coins when a kill shot from a Paladin is placed on a murderer. One silver is rewarded for each short term murder count that the murderer has at the time of death maxing out at 100 coins. These coins are used to purchase other items and equipment available elusively to Paladins that not only benefits you in PvP, but PvE as well!
Platinum is reward only if the murderer has two skills over 70. The skills that qualify are listed below:
Anatomy Swordsmanship Macing Magery Magic Resist Fencing Stealing Tinkering Animal Taming Archery Tactics Wrestling Evaluating Intelligence Hiding Stealth
- Note: Platinum is collected with diminishing returns - There is no benefit to killing Reds and Grey's repeatedly in a short period of time.[More Details Needed]
Paladin Rewards
Reputation? Honor? Of course. But more than that, a Paladin will be able to purchase equipment with the Platinum collected. These items can only be used or equipped by a Paladin, and will break if anyone else tries to.
The platemail armor Paladins wear is especially valuable. It does not block the effects of meditation, and offers a reduced dexterity penalty which makes it superior to normal platemail.
Simply seek out the Paladin Vendor on Paladin Isle in Trinsic, and you will be able to purchase the following items:
| Item | Description / Statistics |
| Random Silver Weapon | A random silver (Undead Slayer) weapon will be placed in the Paladin's backpack. Slayer weapons are now only found on Paragons. |
